U.S. open tennis 2018 betting guide - The tournament Info, tips and recommended bets

usopen tennis championships

The U.S. Open is a “Grand Slam” event and is the last of the four “major” tennis tournaments held during the year where matches are played on an acrylic hard court surface.

This year the tournament begins on Monday 27th of August and ends with the Women’s final played on Saturday 8th of September and the Men’s final played on Sunday 9th of September.

The U.S. Open has 8 rounds. Each round is a “best of 5 sets” or “first to win 3 set” (men) and a “best of 3 sets” or “first to win 2 sets” (women). At the U.S. Open, the final set of a match where the sets are 2-2 is decided by a tie-break (the other three Grand Slams do not have a tie breaker in the final set).

What betting markets are available?

Outright betting and individual match betting is generally available at most quality on-line bookmakers for the Men’s and Women’s single events. There is also betting available on the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles events but these do not become available until the quarter final stages.

There are many betting markets offered for betting on tennis at the U.S. Open including outright winner, round betting, match bets, set betting and specials.

Outright Betting

There are two main outright betting markets available, these are the Men’s Singles and the Women’s Singles. Both markets offer ½ the odds “to place 1,2” or “reach the final”.

The doubles (men’s, women’s and mixed) outright odds generally become available in the second week this year from Sunday, 2nd September.

Individual Match Bet Markets

The following markets become available as the tournament progresses and can also be found “in-game” betting markets:

Match Bets

In the match bet markets you can bet on the result (Player A to Win / Lose) of each match. You can also put these into accumulators.

For example: Player A to win @ 2.62 Player B to win @ 1.44

Set Betting

In this market you can bet on the score of the match. (Of course, for the women the set betting is only 2-0 and 2-1)

For example:

Player A to win 3-0 @ 2.75
Player A to win 3-1 @ 3.75
Player A to win 3-2 @ 6.00
Player B to win 3-0 @ 10.00
Player B to win 3-1 @ 7.00
Player B to win 3-2 @ 7.00

First Set Match Betting

In this market you simply bet who you think will win or lose the first set only. You can also put these into accumulators.

For example:

Player A to win the first set @ 2.37
Player B to win the first set @ 1.53

First Set Correct Score

In this market you can bet on the player and the score of the first set.

For example:

Player A to win the first set...
6-0 @ 51.00
6-1 @ 13.00
6-2 @ 8.00
6-3 @ 5.50
6-4 @ 5.00
7-5 @ 13.00
7-6 @ 7.00

2nd 3rd 4th 5th Set winner

This is the same as the First Set Match betting but for the other sets. These are not usually offered before the match has started but can be found in the "in game" betting markets.

Player A to win the 2nd set @ 2.37
Player B to win the 2nd Set @ 1.53

Statistic Betting

Under / Over 7.5, 8.5. 9.5 games in Set 1, Set 2 etc.

Also found in the "in game" betting markets. Here you choose if the set will have over or under the number of games listed.

For example:

Under 7.5 @ 8.00 @ Over 7.5 @ 1.06
Under 8.5 @ 4.00 Over 8.5 @ 1.22
Under 9.5 @ 2.00 Over 9.5 @ 1.72
Under 10.5 @ 1.33 Over 10.5 @ 3.00
Set to go to a Tie Break? Yes / No

Here you simply choose if the set will finish 6-6 and go to a tie break. (Of course, this is not offered on the 3rd set of a women's match or the 5th set of a men's match)

For example: Yes @ 2.37 No @ 1.53

If the set goes to a tie break then you can bet on Player A or B to win the tie-break.

Number of Sets (Best of 3)

How many sets will be played? - You bet on the number of sets played will be under or above the number listed.

For example:

Men's match: Over 4.5 @ 3.50 Under 4.5 @ 1.28

Women's match: Over 2.5 @ 2.50 Under 2.5 @ 1.50

Total Games in a set / match

Here you can bet if the total number of games played in each set or the match will be odd or even.

For example: Odd @ 1.90 Even @ 1.80

Number of Duece games – None, One, Two

In this bet you choose how many games in the set will go to 40-40 (Deuce). (This bet is available on limited matches only.)

Final Word

For outright betting we also recommend “Double” bets as this can help dramatically increase your returns and you can also place “insurance” bets. For example a Simona Halep @ 9.00 and a Nadal @ 4.50 to win double returns 101.25 points for a 2.5 point bet, you could then do the Double Chance Bet – Djokovic or Federer to win @ 2.25 at 5 points and/or Serena Williams to win @ 6.00 at 5 points or whatever you like to “cover” as the double bet gets closer to a win at the semi-final and final stage.

The Australian Open is also played on a hard acrylic surface so when looking for value in the match betting as well as head to head statistics it is a good idea to research how different players performed in the Australian Open and at other hard court tournaments when making selections.
