What is Wimbledon?
Wimbledon is a “Grand Slam” event and is the third “major” tennis tournament held in the year. The tournament begins on Monday 2nd of July 2018 and ends with the Women’s final played on Saturday 14th July and the Men’s final played on Sunday 15th of July 2018.
Wimbledon has 8 rounds starting with 128 players (with 16 qualifiers and 6 “wild cards”). Each round is a “best of 5 sets” or first to win 3 sets” (men) and a “best of 3 sets” or “first to win 2 sets” (women).
The courts are “lawn” - they are played on grass.
Outright betting and individual match betting is generally available at most quality on-line bookmakers for the Men’s and Women’s single events. There is also betting available on the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles events but from the quarter final stages.
What betting markets are available?
There are many betting markets offered for betting on tennis for Wimbledon including outright winner, round betting, match bets, set betting and specials.
Outright Betting
There are two main outright betting markets available, these are the Men’s Singles and the Women’s Singles. Both markets offer ½ the odds “to place 1,2” or “reach the final”.

Final Word
Because this tournament is the only one played on grass there are often surprises and giant killings and under dog winners in the early rounds. This is because some players play in every grass tournament they can before Wimbledon while others arrive just a week before to practice. If you can get information on which players prepare and those that don’t then this will greatly help you make more informed choices about players and results. Good Luck!
